Beth Peterson

Peterson took office in 2023 and currently serves as board president. In her board profile, she described looking forward to serving the Tanque Verde community, understanding the needs of the district, and contributing to positive educational outcomes for students.

Governing Board - Tucson Unified School District

Jennifer Eckstrom

Eckstrom serves as TUSD governing board president, elected in 2022. In 1995 she was elected to South Tucson City Council at 18 — the youngest person ever elected to office in Arizona — and later served as mayor. She has worked for Pima County since 2003.

Tre'Davon Rhodes

Rhodes, 20, is a rising junior at the University of Arizona and a TUSD graduate. He filed with 880 signatures — the most of any TUSD candidate this cycle. He's running to unseat incumbent Val Romero, aiming to bring youth and student representation to the board.

Pilar Acosta Ruiz

Acosta Ruiz previously ran for TUSD governing board in 2024, finishing fourth for three seats. Her priorities are accountability, a safe learning environment for students and teachers, and what she calls "common sense solutions."

Gemma is a retired school administrator who served as principal at Canyon del Oro High School. He was appointed to the Amphi board in August 2025 to complete the term of the late Patsy Harris and is now running to keep the seat.

Kimberly Ryan works as deputy general counsel for the Tucson Airport Authority and currently serves as vice chair of the Oro Valley Planning & Zoning Commission. She holds a law degree from Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law.

Godlewski has roughly 30 years of experience in public education. She's running to advocate for transparent communication, strategic budgeting, and proactive planning to address declining enrollment and teacher shortages.

Elizabeth Slater

Slater is chief executive officer of Youth On Their Own, a Tucson nonprofit that supports youth experiencing homelessness in Pima County. She is a youth advocate and nonprofit leader in the Tucson community.

Proposition 141 - Relating to Taxation

Bans any future taxes or fees based on vehicle miles traveled. Would prevent ever replacing the gas tax that pays for highway construction and maintenance with a tax based on mileage that charges electric and hybrid vehicles their fair share.

Proposition 142 - Relating to the Prohibition of Preferential Treatment and Discrimination

Vote No

Bans diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives at public schools and state offices, and restricts discussions of racial issues.

Proposition 144 - Relating to Election Requirements

Vote No

Requires voters to provide a government issued ID each time they vote by mail without saying how this would be done.

Proposition 316 - Relating to Municipal Transaction Privilege Tax

Vote No

Puts a 2% cap on future sales taxes on groceries, restricting cities and towns ability to pay for essential services.

Proposition 317 - Relating to the Arizona Department of Homeland Security

Vote No

Declares drug cartels to be terrorist organizations and directs the Arizona Department of Homeland Security, an agency that administers federal grants, to address the threat posed by drug cartels.

Proposition 318 - Relating to Student Athletics

Vote No

Discriminates against transgender kids by barring them from sports teams and bathrooms that match their gender identity, forcing them to use ones that match their sex assigned at birth instead. Its enforcement mechanism also invites invasive scrutiny of any girl whose appearance or performance is questioned.

Proposition 319 - Relating to Photo Enforcement Systems

Bans new photo radar and red-light camera enforcement across Arizona, eliminating a proven traffic-safety tool.

Proposition 320 - Relating to School District Budgets

Vote No

Requires school districts in large counties to spend at least 60% of spending on “direct instructional expenses.” Districts that miss this target face steep cuts to state Classroom Site Funding ( 25% year 1, 50% year 2, 75% year 3 & 100% year 4) that districts use to boost teacher salaries. Aimed at undermining public school districts, it wouldn't apply to charter schools or private schools that accept vouchers.
